I am trying to edit an existing document that was emailed to me and I don't know how to edit it. I need to change colors, names on the rooms, and the arrows on this document.

What kind of file is it? What file format?

What does Inkscape say if you select an object?

Have you looked into the Inkscape documentation or into some of the suggested tutorials?
