how do I delete nodes?

After tracing a bitmap. I occasionally end up with too many nodes to successfully convert and save said bitmap as a dxf file. Is there a way to delete unneeded nodes without crashing my system or at least hanging it up. I've zoomed in on said bitmap and tried to delete unneeded nodes, but to no avail.

select your path and Path menu > Simplify (Ctrl+L) (you can repeat this action as many times as you like, but if you do it too much you'll lose detail in your drawing)
