how do i make a file to open in scad

Asked by shannon reiss

I am trying to make something in inkscape and open it in OpenSCAD. I am following some directions that state there should be an option for this but I don't see it. Is this no longer possible?

Hi Shannon,

if you could link to the instructions you're following, that would be helpful.
Or you could list which file formats OpenSCAD can open.

Can you also describe what you're doing exactly and where it fails? And what happens when it fails?

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Sorry this went to spam. Just now seeing it. I am trying to teach my kids
how create their own items to be 3D printed. I checked out a book from the
library 'The Invent to Learn Guide to 3D Printing in the Classroom'. In
there is a project that they wanted to print. After finishing their
project in inkscape it said to click on 'Generate from Path', then 'Paths
to OpenSCAD'. My version of inkscape does not have that option. Just
wondering if there is someplace I can get that. I'm very new to 3d
printing and design so this has been quite a struggle for me. Thanks for
any help anyone can give.

It's an Inkscape extension that is being developed by an Inkscape user, and is not shipped with Inkscape.
Try https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1065500 (no guarantees whatsoever, untested, but Neon22 is very knowledgeable with Inkscape extensions.)

(or search for alternatives: https://www.google.de/search?q=Paths+to+OpenSCAD)

Can you help with this problem?
