Path draw zoom and fix line displacement

Asked by Caio

I have 2 needs which would help me in Inkscape, and I don't know if they are still available.

The first is a zoom when I drawing a path. Is there any keybord shortcut which allows me to zoom when I drawing a path. Currently, I draw my bezier path and after finished, I move the middle nodes to the important points. If I could do that during the drawing would be faster for me.

The second need is about object displacement in fix line. I know we can use Ctrl button for making the displacement follow a fix line, but we can only use a horizontal, vertical or some important angles lines. Is there any way to me draw a virtual line in which I could move the object using this fix line? Because some times I use a marking of a point in a draw map line and I wanna move this marking in that line.

Sorry if I don't use the correct terms. I hope you can answer me.

Hi Caio,

for zooming while drawing, try the quick zoom by pressing Q.

For the snapping to a line, I'd suggest you try out a guide line, with snapping to guides and for the kind of object you want to snap to it enabled. Double-click on a guide to change its angle with numeric input, hold down Shift and drag on it to change the guide's angle.
Or perhaps you want to use a grid? Axonometric grids can be used for getting specific angles.

More info at http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Snapping.html

(and note that you can also convert an object to guides)

Kind Regards,

Tks for answering, Maren

In this case of zooming while drawing, the zoom is made with center in the page view center. Can this zoom be made with center in mouse pointer?

I will study about snapping.

Hi Caio,

I just found out about a better alternative:

While drawing with the Bézier tool, it is possible to use the Shift + middle mouse button drag zoom (https://inkscape.org/en/doc/keys092.html#d0e727). I think that would solve your issue?
