Allow specifying the length of a guideline

Asked by Alain

I would like to propose that guides length or width can be set, so it has a starting point and an ending point, and not for it to be drawn completely across the screen.

Hi Alain,

this is an interesting suggestion. If you want to make this a feature request, please visit the bug reporting section at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape .

Also be sure to include some use cases, to explain a bit why you're requesting this (unusual) feature, and what would be its advantages. If you also have an idea of how the user interface for creating such a guideline should look, please include that with the report.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

You might try using Bezier-pen lines on a locked layer. Hide the layer before output.

Thanks I can certainly do that. I am trying to emulate the behavior seen in other vector software programs, since it is a matter of custom and convenience. I simply would like this feature added. I know there are "workarounds", however I thought of just adding the length field to specify how long it should go for.
