version.91 File>Close opens a new document

Asked by Joe Pompei

Been using versions .48 on 2 MacBook Pros but recently bought 2 new MacBook Airs with Sierra OS and installed version .91.

Problem: when trying to close a file, a new document is opened rather than closing the document. This is true for both File>Close or the control w short cut. This isn't right. It doesn't happen with older versions of Inkscape.

Is there a way to fix it? I have uninstalled and reinstalled .91 but problem still exists.

Hi Joe,

you need to use File -> Quit to close the Inkscape program (with all windows).

File -> Close will keep the Inkscape program alive, so there will always be at least one Inkscape window of the current Inkscape instance left, i.e. when you're closing the last file, an empty document will open.

This behavior is intentional, see also: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=18837

Kind Regards,
 Maren
