Inkscape will not allow me to resize my window

Asked by magnoliasouth

I am unable to see the bottom of Inkscape at all. I cannot make the window smaller by dragging from top to bottom. I am only allowed to drag from side to side, which is no help anyway since it is the bottom that I cannot see.

I saw this: https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/22067
but it doesn't answer the question. In fact, this makes no sense at all: "The problem is that due to the size of Inkscape's toolbars, it forces a restriction on the minimum height and width that Inkscape can be made. If your screen resolution is below that size, Inkscape may not maximize/minimize properly."

Why? I've used other software with even larger toolbars but never have I not been able to resize the window due to my resolution. That should easily be fixed with a scroll bar and there is no reason whatsoever that there should be a limitation such as this. If I can use Gimp, Paint Shop Pro and a variety of other pieces of graphical software, why is this one the only one with the problem?

For what it is worth, I also tried File > Inkscape Preferences > Misc > Make toolbar icons smaller, but this did not help either. I mean, don't get me wrong. I appreciate all that anyone does with software like this, I really do. I just am surprised that it has such a constricting limitation.

Hopefully there is a fix for this now.

Well I have bad news. It was working to begin with. It crashed suddenly and then when I launched it again it will no longer allow me to resize the window.

Any new suggestions?

try to delete Inkscape preferences.

on windows you'll find them here:
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Inkscape

on ubuntu/linux:
/home/{username}/.config/Inkscape
