Hi Edward,

can you test if it works when you downscale the picture before import? It's > 50 Mb /3.840px × 4.800px, and I think there are known issues concerning large images.

Which version of Inkscape have you installed? 32bit or 64bit?

If neither switching the version, nor downscaling help, it might be a new issue.
This is the list for issues that have to do with crashes on import:

It's a bit long... But maybe you can find something that applies to your situation?

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Inkscape .92.1 x64
Windows 10 Pro x64
It didn't crash when downsizing to 1/2 original size and converting to jpeg.
I don't need much detail as I was going to use the autotrace feature described in the manual.
However, I can't find the autotrace icon as described in the manual.

Hi Edward,

the messages in the extension error log are fine. You will only need those output formats when you also have the programs that can read them.

Does your 'Path' menu look similar to this:
https://framapic.org/xzH70lq5vrjC/HtqOmYfJeggZ.png

'Trace Bitmap' should be in it, unless you got your Inkscape version from an inofficial source, where a dependency wasn't met.
