"cusp node to cusp node"

Asked by Chrissy Garrison

Hey! Sorry newer user trying to self teach myself. I've been reading through the manual and I cannot find what is probably something simple.
I just downloaded the new version tonight. No idea how long or what version I was using before. I am just a beginner and not 100% on moving nodes around. I am basically taking clipart or writing out words. In the past I can get my images in, trace bitmaps, remove backgrounds etc.
I am trying to take a copy of the exact same word via ctrl c/v and then layer it offset a tad in a different color (shadow). Before new version I had never come across a pop up that says "cusp node to cusp node" and then it lines it up directly on top of the layer below. How do I get that to stop? Am I just making this too hard on myself and there is a more simple way? Just attempting to make SVG's that can be sent that are easy to use for Cricut users.
Sorry for the long ramble in advance.

I'd try turning off the snapping tools by clicking on the button at the top of the snap tools on the right side of the Inkscape window.
