I want to add an additional drive to the places section in the open file dialogue but cannot see a way to do so with the Mac version

Asked by Thyme

In the windows version of Inkscape I can add to the places section in the open file window even if the place is on a different drive to that which Inkscape is installed on. I want to be able to do the same with the Mac version, but can see no way of accessing different drives unless I type in the location name - and then it will not allow me to add that to the places section. Does anyone know how to do this?

In the open dialogue you see under "places" "File system", click on it, there is a folder named "Volumes", open it, you will see all your drives there shown as folders. drag and drop the one you need into "places".

Unfortunately there is no volumes folder under File system.
And I do have three other internal drives so would have expected there to be something

1.which version of osx and inkscape are you using?

2.are you admin on your maching or simple user?

3.i'm using it on osx 10.5.6 PPC, with a development version of Inkscape and the latest X11, maybe you want to give it a try:

you can find the latest X11 here (recommended):
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki

and development version of Inkscape here:

.. very weird..

1.what do you see in File system? (try also right clicking in the folder list ->show hidden files)

2.you said you can access your drive by typing in the location, what is the location? (can you go one level up from your drives location to see if all the drives are listed?)

Thank you, has anyone told you lately that you are brilliant??
The show hidden files sorted it - I had not even considered that.
Thanks again
