color wrong

Asked by Louis-e

Hello,

I am using inkscape to print a poster for a conference and I created a background image from a color photo. I applied a color matrix filter and a grayscale effect to change it to a black and white picture (question #36532). I tend set the opacity to 50%. Now on screen it shows the picture as black and white, however when I print it on a pdf file, the picture revert to color.

Is this a bug or am i not doing something right?

cheers
Louis

I suspect that it's simply a limitation in what can be transferred into the PDF. You could try taking a bitmap copy of the object or use a photo editing application to alter the image before you import it.

I've tried to repeat this from your description but don't get any problems. Can you post an SVG and the problem PDF you made from that SVG?

very weird, I tried yesterday.. and same happened to me, applied color matrix filter, applied grayscale effect, exported to pdf... and the pdf was in colour...
I tried a second time (and more).... nothing happened.. no way to get the image in grayscale..
tried again today.... no problem.. everything exported grayscale to pdf..

if you save to pdf without checking the option "rasterise filter effects", the filter you applied will in some cases be lost. (i tried with the color matrix/grayscale and it saves to colour if the option is not checked)

..do you have this option when you try to save as pdf? (I'm using a development version, so i don't remember if this option was available in the official release.) If you don't have it you might want to switch to a development version of inkscape (which btw corrects some bugs for the pdf export):

you can get it here for windows:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D

for ubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/~inkscape-nightly/+archive

for mac:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/macosx-snap/?M=D

hope this helps
