To erase a line, select it and hit delete. if it's in a path, select the two ending nodes of your line and click on the apropriate node option on the tool control bar.

the eraser tool is in the development version of inkscape,
here are the links for windows and ubuntu development builds:

What's the difference between a line or a path? I use the Bezier tool to make lines and curves. Is that considered a line or a path?

Is it possible to add node points on a drawn path/ line? I often times want to delete a section of a drawn path/ line but I can't. The way around that is I have to make 2 separate paths but the outcome isn't good as it creates jagged points in what's suppose to be a curve.

Can you help with this problem?
