Than you for your answer, but it did not work. I also have problemes with changing font. I select a new font and press enter, but the font does not change.

are you sure you didn't convert your text to paths? are you still able to edit your text? This might explain why you cant change the fond at why alt+left/right arrow wont work.

Did you change your fond from the drop down menu or from the font dialog (shift+ctrl+T)? Sometimes the drop down menu is a bit buggy.

What's your Inkscape version and os?

Inkscape version 0.46 (norwegian version) and Windows XP. Yes I have used the dropdown menu. I tried the font dialog (shift+ctl+T). But I still have troubel. My first action after starting Inkscape is pusshing the tekst-button (A), then i write a text. After that I mark the text with the cursor and push shift+ctrl+T. I change the font to Lucida Handwr. size 20. After pushing appl, the text changes in the text window. Ater closing the window the text is gone or it has changed to the new font without changing name in the font-drop-down-bar :-). Should I change the version?

I have now installed Inkscape20635-0902051553.7z 05-Feb-2009 15:57 41M and I am now able to change the font. But the ALT - arrow function still does not work for me.

how do you write the text? by just clicking with the text tool or by draging a box with it? If you drag it you will create a "text flow", where kerning (alt+arrows) will not work, you need to convert you text to normal text before (Text menu>convert to text). If you just click with the text tool and then write, it will be normal text and kerning should work.
