Hi Aisha,

sorry, I don't know without further info:

- What is your operating system?
- What is your Inkscape version?
- Does copy-paste of objects work flawlessly? (i.e. creates an editable copy?)
- Can you provide an example file, with exact steps to reproduce? You can upload the file to imgh.us and post a link here.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

thanks
-my operating system is window 10
-the inkscape version is 0.92.1
-copy and paste works with other objects like boxes for instance, but does not work for editable text
-as per creating an example file, I am not that tech savvy and have no idea how to record myself working. But I just ried it again, and ctrl+shift+v still did not change the properties of the other text.
regards

Hi Aisha,

can you do the following:
 - create a text
- select it with the selection tool
 - copy it with Ctrl+C
- paste it with Ctrl + V (in Inkscape)

Does this work?

Make sure that when copying the object/its properties, you are using the selection tool.

Also make sure that the text you're copying is left-aligned before pasting on a flowed text. I just noticed those become invisible if you paste center-aligned style on it.

What kind of properties are you trying to transfer?

To upload a test file, visit http://imgh.us then click on the Filesystem search button, select your SVG file, then click on the upload button. Then copy the line where it says 'URL' into a post here. Please include a text whose style you're trying to copy, a text whose style you want to change, and the result of the style pasting operation.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi
Yes creating text works
An I was able to copy and paste the text as shown in the file
I want to copy the properties of the larger text to the smaller text, rather than go through assigning font, size, and colour all the time.
Thanks

Hi Aisha,

I wasn't able to find the reason, but I can give you a workaround:

The style (i.e. fill color, stroke color,...), aside from the font size and bolding etc, *is* being copied.

What works is copying styles from a normal text.

If you don't really need flowed texts in your document, please use normal texts everywhere. Those are created by clicking into the document, not clicking and dragging. Flowed texts, otoh, do not work anywhere but in Inkscape, so it's always a good idea to not use them, when the flowing isn't required.

If you do need flowed texts, you can copy the styles from an extra normal text that you put to the side.

I created a bug report, hopefully someone else can explain the behaviour: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675028

You can subscribe to the report to get updates and info.
