How to open a file with extension "indd"

I have a file that was created by someone else in another program with a file extension of "indd" I don't have the program. Can I open it within InkScape? If so, how?

No. This is InDesign file (and no easy way to tell which version is needed). No other program can open these files AFAIK. And Adobe tries to keep it so, furthermore, there is no easy way to get your text back from this format, it is designed to be "the end format".

If you can make a friend or the author of the file to produce PDF out of it, then Inkscape imports pdf files quite fine (one page at a time). If this work is with a few pages then it may work out. But if it is simply a B&W book with a lot of text and only a few illustrations then openoffice may be the best choice (needs a little learning to be mastered well).
