how to fix Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime error

Asked by Shayne Dickson

I'm using the current version of Inkscape 0.92.1 and was working on a project all morning, but when I went to import a certain image as a reference, inkscape crashed and it gave me this message first;

Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now.
Automatic backups of unsaved documents were done to the following locations:
F:\Vinyl cutter\Customer projects\Lurch\Light boxes\Daniel\Daniel.svg.2017_03_18_18_01_28.0.svg

So i thought the file I imported must have been the issue, so I go to the backup file and try to open it and I get this message

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

C:\Program Files\Inkscape\Inkscape.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in and unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information

Then I click ok and get another window that says:

Inkscape encountered and internal error and will close now

I've uninstalled and re-installed inkscape, tried everything I can think of, will I be able to recover all my work, or should I accept the fact that its gone :(

Thanks

Hi Shayne,

can you upload the svg file somewhere and post a link to it? Then I could take a look. If you don't know where to upload, you can use imgh.us or framadrop.org.

Please also indicate your Windows version, and if you've installed the 32 or 64bit Inkscape version.

And, to make it easier for me (or anyone else) to find the issue:
What kind of image did you import? Was it the only image of that kind? Or have there been others added? (I may need to remove it, so it would help to know what / where it is).

For next time, please enable the Autosave feature, via Edit -> Preferences -> Input/Output -> Autosave.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
