Inkscape file wont re-open

Asked by Blender 3D Trups All

I am farely new to inkscape, but I want to make a picture of my sister as a present to her. Everything was going fine last night when I was working on it, but when I return today, all Inkscape says is:

Failed to load the requested file /home/nicholas/Desktop/old/sketch2.svg

That's it. No other explanation.

Now, little things which may have caused a problem. I don't think they are the cause, but they may be.
1. I traced the sketch off of an image I had. When I was working last night I deleted the reference picture since I did not need it anymore
2. I used a lot of blurs. Loads of them to the point where my CoreTwoDuo was grinding to a halt when I zoomed in and out. I predict there are 100 to 200 vector shapes.
3. I hid layers when I did not need them. Before I shut down the computer last night I revealed the hidden shapes by manually deleting the "Display: none" in the XML editor. I did this according to an on line site that was talking about how to use the "Hide/Reveal" command. I was doing it to ease up the load on my computer a bit.

Other than that, there is nothing I did in the picture other than draw lines and colour them. Please help.

Run inkscape from command line or command prompt. Search answers here on how to do it. The you can see errors which cause the loading to fail.

Also for displaying of blurs to be easier to cpu there are some good options (some on devel version only):
outline mode, no effect view mode
bitmap effects quality setting
settings layer visibility

What I found (other than learn how to use the terminal. Hadn't done that before) is that I had given grouped layers names. The spot to put names in the Properties puts the text right into the text file. So I found stuff like this showing up red.

Black Hair ="">

Then I had to learn about where the ending points are in the text file. Woot. Thank you for getting me going in the right direction
