printing to CD -watch dial

Asked by foxint

Aim - print watch dials using Canon Pixma iP4600.

Cannon Pixma has the capabilities of printing to a CD - i,e, hard thick surface, wiht out the normal movement through rollers and in a U-shap or J-curve shape.

Watch dials 30mm circular disc can not be distorted. Canon CD Laabel making software will not recognise Vector based files. So can we print to a CD/watch dial using inkscape or any other programme.

I am only new and a novice

Dan

I think exporting to bitmap (with dpi setting at least 300 or more) and printing it from canon software is the easiest way to go.

Sir,
Would not this make scaling difficult and would not I loose a lot of clarity and detail?

If you use the same dpi as printers (2400dpi or similar), then you loose no clarity. All vector data gets converted to bitmap in printer, using exact output dpi anyway. This only means big files for printing.

But better approach would be using some vector format which is supported by both programs, which may be pdf, eps, wmf, xmal or similar.

But you could try printing directly to the printer either from inkscape or acrobat reader using 12x12cm or whatever canvas it requires.

Sir,
Thanks. But my printer has a CD dock - that allows a Cd to be placed in there and printed flat. I can not point Acrobat Pro to the CD bed and the CD label programme can not read pdf or SVG, Further I do not know how to point inkscape to the dc dock.

I have new Canon Pixma iP4600

I am sure it can be done and I am not an expert, so hopefully some one knows

Thanks
regards
Dan

If you cannot point acrobat to the dock then you cannot do it from inkscape either.

You could post a list of formats which canon cd-label program supports here, to see if any of these if vector.
Otherwise the only option is to use high-resolution bitmap.

Can you help with this problem?
