scanning in an paper piecing image then converting to svg

Asked by moxiebee

Can I scan in a paper piecing pattern then pull it up in inkscapes and convert it to a svg file. If you don't know what a paper piecing pattern is, it is a pattern in pieces so you can cut different pieces in different colors then layer them to complete the image.

Hi Moxiebee,

Looks like quilting, isn't it?
Yep, you can convert it (and all scanned stuff) with inkscape by using Path>Trace bitmap (Shift+Alt+B).
The new path will be added above the bitmap.

More information on how tho trace bitmaps here:

This was great info but more than I needed. I suppose I should have been more specific. The things I would like to scan from BMP to SVG are simple outlines in black. I will use the info you sent me and try to adapt it to my application. Thanks for all your help Evelyn Bee
