nodes reappearing after they have been deleted

Asked by Elaine Waldner on 2017-03-07

When I work on picture and finish one cut out and then go to the next cutout all of a sudden there are nodes added back to the previous cutouts. Sometimes 3 on top of each other. Very time consuming!

How do i get this to stop? I am using Inkscape .91

I have tried saving after each cutout, I have left everything to the end to save but it always is the same. Always have to edit nodes again.

This leads to Sheetcam telling me I have overlapping lines.

Hi Elaine,

I'm sorry, I cannot follow you as to what you're doing, or what you're trying to achieve.

Can you please upload a couple of screenshots (and maybe an svg file that demonstrates the issue) of what you're doing to imgh.us and post the link in your next comment here? (Email attachments do NOT work).

Or if you know how to make a little screencast video, that would be helpful, too.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Firstly, thanks for your time.

I usually start with a picture and then make my design on it. Basically what I am trying to do is simplify the program to reduce frustration with the cutting. In Sheetcam I get a lot of over lapping lines messages.
Usually the letters are the biggest problem. This time there are no stacked nodes.
If you look at the first diagram and then the second you will see that the are additional modes in the first. They had been removed but seem to show up again when putting into sheet cam.

I am 70 yrs old and trying to learn the program. The other thing that gets me is that I have to set up the page each time I open Inkscape. I know it only takes a minute but I should be able to do a setup, save and then just bring it up.

Sorry, Elaine - I cannot access the images you uploaded, because there is no link to them in your post, I'm still 'blind'.

What file format do you use for transferring the data from Inkscape to Sheetcam?

As for the page setup - if you're using the same kind of page every time (e.g. same size, same unit, snap settings, etc.), then you could create a template for it. You would only have to select that template from the list, or you can use it as your own personal default template.

To do so, just save a pre-setup Inkscape file into the folder 'templates' in the directory that is shown at Edit -> Preferences -> System: User config. If you name it 'default.svg' and save it as 'Inkscape SVG' file type, it will be loaded automatically on startup, or when you open a new document in Inkscape.

I might not be able to post another answer before Saturday, so if anyone else is reading here, feel free to step in to help Elaine.

Elaine, if that's too long for you to wait, you can also copy-paste your question (and attach your files) in a post at http://inkscapeforum.com .

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Thanks for the advice on creating a template. This will be a big help.

I save the file as DXF and send it to my Sheetcam ready file. Once the Sheetcam file works then I save it as Inkscape again.

Sorry to cause this trouble. I do not know how to link the files to my post.

I have been doing it like this for 2 years so I can keep doing it. Instead of trying to figure this out we can forget about it. My patience with emails is very short!!
Thanks again
Elaine
