Tutorial on creating shapewipe such as "clock" or "spiral"

Asked by David Wende

I would like to learn how to create shapewipes (grayscale gradiented png images used in Cinelerra for example) as the
basis for video transition. I can do a simple gradient fill on a shape, but want to make something more complex,
more in the way of the much used "clock" or "spiral" shapewipes.

Any help appreciated.

David

I am not sure what effect you are looking for, but for inkscape tutorials:
http://inkscapetutorials.wordpress.com/

Take a look at Edit->Clone->Create tiled clones

Thanks for your prompt answer.
I tried with the clone/tile effect, but could not make such as image.
See for example:

for the sort of graphic I am trying to make.
Thanks again.

SVG has no conical gradient.
Use gimp instead, look for "conical": http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/graphics_tools/gimp_user_manual/en/gimp-tool-blend.html

Thanks for the advise - the GIMP does it fantastically.
Have been playing with Inkscape for a few days - seems pretty powerful and well thought out
but GIMP fits this particular need.
