CLEANING A SCANNED IMAGE

Asked by mauro

HI
I'm just a new user, I'd like to know if it's possible to "clean" a scanned form, 'cause the scanned form results a bit "dirty"
Thanks in advance to everyone who could help me.

Inkscape will not be good for this IMO.

The GIMP has a tool called threshold which is useful. Also Tools > Color Tools > Levels and try the "auto" option. HTH.

I don't know which is the best tool to do this, but it's also possible with inkscape.
Just select your scanned bitmap on the canvas and open Path>Trace Bitmap (Shift+Alt+B). The you'll have to try and tune the different parameters in order to get a clean vector version of your scan.
More details here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Trace.html
(An Italian version is in progress...)
