Is this task suitable for Inkscape?

Asked by Paul Cox

Is this task suitable for Inkscape?

I am not sure if Inkscape is suitable.
What do you think?

I have a png file.
The file shows a small button (for a music player).
The theme colour of the button is red.
There are different shades of red, perhaps 8 shades, which go from white to dark red.
When I open the png file in Inscape I see many boxes with the various shades of red.

I like the button, but I don't like the base colour.
I would like to take another colour, let's say green.

Can I somehow change the shades in a systematic way to change from red to green or must I somehow select each box manually and do it that way.

Is Inkscape suitable for this job?

Many thanks if you have to reply.

Paul

There is no systematic colorchanger.
But this usually is achieved with one colored background element, and many semitransparent objects above it, usually white and black objects with gradients.
The new filter effects may also be of use.

Keep in mind that, although you can achieve useful results using the methods that mahfiaz pointed out, inkscape is for vector graphics, not a bitmap image manipulation tool.
You should better use Gimp for that task.

Thank you for your quick support.

I have now used Inkscape to create the family of buttons I need.
I used the grid function to display where the different shades of colour were.
I moved the existing colur shades to the left on the canvass to use as a reference.
Then in the box which was left I inserted layers of colour into the grid to get the result I wanted.

The colour change is not a systematic buit relies on my eyes to compare the intensity of the colour shades on the left and right.

I haven't tried to make the buttons with Gimp yet.
This time I found the Inkscape user interface easy to work with.
Perhaps this is a task which can be done with both programs.
