Won't recognize some TTF fonts recently installed

A few fonts I recently downloaded and installed are seen by my other sw programs but not inkscape.
Only thing I see they have in common is the name of the fonts both have a "JL". One is Art Supplies JL
and the other is Graphic Arts JL. They are both dingbat TTF but inkscape has recognized all other fonts to date when I install them.
Any ideas? OS = Vista, examples of sw that do recognize the fonts include: SCAL, Word, Publisher.
