Inkscape won't start properly: menu text are not shown

Asked by Bram Faems

I'm having trouble starting Inkscape. The given solution (by opening resources and starting "openDoc" helps, but Inkscape still doesn't work as it should. My text is shown as squares and the menu items aren't shown at all.

After working for a while, the program quits whitout any reason.

When opening "openDoc" the terminal lists a number of errors. I think these errors are the reason for all the problems.:

The output contains these lines:
(inkscape-bin:936): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically
loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly.
This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
  '/opt/local/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You should create this file by running pango-querymodules.

Have tried running pango-querymodules, as this suggests?
But this is bugreport. You should report this as bug instead, which this definitely is (if not pango configuration problem on your system). Bug reports are overlooked by developers, answers are not. This way your bug would get some attention.

I don't have a clue what you are talking about... really :D

So what should I do? How do I report bugs... When I click on report bugs on the Inkscape homepage, this site is where I'm sent to.

See the red link with text Bugs in the top menu on this site. Click on this link, you will find another red one there, named "Report a bug" fill the form and you are done. Also don't forget to add additional data, if somebody requests you to do so, otherwise your report will be closed as invalid.

First you should try typing pango-querymodules into terminal, as suggested before.

It would also help developers, if you could narrow down the cause of the problem, exact steps, which always lead to crash.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Bram Faems for more information if necessary.
