Bullet and numbering in a text list

Asked by Gonzalo Rojas Costa

How can I put bullets (circular, rectangles, etc) in a text list ?... For example, I have the following:

     "Option one
     Option two
     Other option"

and I want to add a circle at the left side of each line...

Sincerely,

Gonzalo Rojas Costa

Use character map or similar program to find characters, which would look like bullets you want and add these to the beginning of each line, separated by tab or space. Something like this:
▪ first entry
▪ the second one
▪▫○●◦☻☺◘◙►■□♦♥, you may also copy from here.
If your list is smaller or not going to change, you may also make and place the bullets by hand, so you are not limited by fonts.

No bullets or numbering support yet. Sorry.

This is by far not sufficient.
Bullet list is one evil, but how about Numbered list?

Imagine a numbered list of references - and trying to align them all up!

I am not sure why Inkscape cannot include this feature - is it the lack of time or that it is considered "unnecessary"? Because if it is the latter - let me assure you that it is very necessary and much needed.

People probably just can't go through all this "bug reporting" process to let you guys know about it - as this launchpad thing is not the easiest to use.

Please reconsider.
Thank you for a great product.

Hi,

I also support this idea. Implementing bullets manually is not always trivial if manageable at all. Consider justified text flown into a frame.

Using char map or any other way to insert bullets renders ugly looking lines where first word after the bullet is separated from the bullet according to normal text justification rules which means first words in manually prepared bulleted lists are not aligned at all.

Please reconsider implementing this feature in Inkscape - a great tool by the way!

For justified text you could follow the mark with Tag space (U+E0020), you could copy one from here, it's between the quotation marks, unfortunately Ubuntu font does not show it here, but it in Inkscape works perfectly with Arial, Times NR, Delicious and even Ubuntu: "󠀠"

For some reason that didn't work for me. But you gave me an idea: actually it is possible to use any character as a separator between the bullet itself and text which follows. All you need to do is to simply make the separator transparent by disabling fill and stroke. Very simple yet it works. :-) Thanks for this suggestion mahfiaz!

Use software designed to handle bulleted and numbered lists like Scribus, Tex, LibreOffice, ...
and leave the drawing to Inkscape.
Create your list in more appropriate software and import to Inkscape or import Inkscape illustrations into the other.
That's what I do.
IMHO, do-all software gets bloated and never seems to do everything well. For example; Libreoffice Draw does not do as well as Inkscape for illustrations.

Can you help with this problem?
