cannot make foreground opaque

Asked by Beth

I think I'm missing something here-
I cannot find a way to make a foreground object opaque over a background object. For example, I have a drawing of a girl outside on the grass. The girl does not appear dimensionally on top of the grass; the color of her skin and clothes are blended with the grass giving everything a greenish look. I have tried using layers, changing the filters and modes, adjusting the opacity, etc, but she still always is blended with the background. Any assistance is much appreciated-

Beth

You may have masked group, non-100% Opacity level or non-100% alpha channel (color settings) on items. Having some Filter Effects applied is also possible, which causes transparency or different blending style. And having grass-layer above the girl's, locked and some of those effects applied, is also possible.
Really impressing amount of options.

Thank you!
I think I need to stop working on this stuff at midnight... :)
I'd work many fewer hours if I did it with a clear mind-
I was working with the opacity in the Effects section, not the Fill section, so I was always getting a blend. I removed the Effect completely and then changed the opacity to 100% in the Fill section. I did not know there was a separate opacity function in the Fill section; I only found it once I tried to locate the alpha function (which I was not previously familiar with).

Thanks a bunch.... my book can continue!
