cutting out from an object with several clones

Asked by kungu

I have an object with many clones laying on each other - if I am cutting out with a box, I am successful - but if I am then actualizing "Group dissolve" - the whole original object appears instead of selection - therefore the whole date scope of the original objet has remained - how is it possible to delate th remaining dates of the original object - many thanks

Hi kungu,

The clipping that you are describing is only hiding everything outside the clip region (non-destructively).

I think what you're looking for is:

- convert clones to paths (select clones, Edit -> Clone... -> Unlink Clone)
- do a Boolean operation instead of clipping (Object -> Difference)

You may need to repeat the operation, or you can combine the clones into a single object, if they all share the same fill and stroke properties first (Object -> Combine).

Let me know if I understood you correctly, else please try to give some visual hints, like uploading a picture of what you're doing to imgh.us or some other image hoster.

Or, if you happen to speak German or French or Spanish as your native language, you can also switch to that language, if you prefer.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
