How do I set colors?

Asked by Rene

I come from Photoshop and Illustrator. In these programs you set the color by clicking on the Fill and Background / Border Color fields. A dialog appears then. I tried that in Inkscape but nothing happened. When trying around the program crashes. Is there a way of setting the colors of border and fill on the top right side?
cheers.

I am having the same problem; I think.

I am able to change the color of the fill and the stroke; the fill and stroke box at the upper right-hand corner of the screen registers the color that I choose. But the tools all paint in red; the stroke color changes with my selection but the fill is always in red; no matter what color is indicated in the fill color box at the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Inkspace ver. o.92.2 5c3eB0d
Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6

I have figured out how to make the tools put out the color that is indicated on the fill and stroke fields. I figured out that once I had an object selected, that I could click on the color swatches at the bottom of the document window and change the color of the object and then, I could take a sampling of the color of the object with the tool properties window and it will register the color of the selected object and will then produce the indicated color.

At first, the tools were all producing red colors regardless of what color was indicated in the fill and stroke fields. I still find that strange, but I have found a way to work around it.

You can consider my questions answered. :-)
