can't clip images on inkscape

Asked by Sil Falqueto

Several times I created vectors on inkscape and tried to clip (frequently is a group of vectors) them in a shape like a square, but they always disappear (I can see the square, but nos the vectors inside). I tried to group them before, to bring them top, and just then clip it, but it is always hiden by the lower shape, even when this sahpe is not filled. I followed the help instructions, but it still doesn't work... What is going wrong?

thanks

I don't really understand what you mean (Some SVG files that explain this would be helpful), so here is some general advice.

Clipping works as follows:
1. To clip, you have to select at least 2 objects. The topmost of the selected objects becomes the clipping path for the rest of the selected objects. The order in which you select them doesn't matter, only their stacking order.
2. Go to Object -> Clip -> Set to set the clipping path.
3. Only things that are inside the clipping path are visible after clip.
4. Clipping groups works too.

I think your problem is that the clipping square in not on top when you select Clip.

I am reopening this, since I still have a little problem:
when I clip the image, the outline of the container shape disapears. Many times I have to see this outline. What can I do?

Sil:
The clipping path works as a mask, it becomes invisible when you clip the underlying shape or group. If you want to keep the contour of the clipping path you can:

- Copy the clipping path before performing the clipping operation with CTRL+C
- Perform the clipping operation:
- Paste in place the copied path using CTRL+ALT+V.

That will paste a copy of the clipping object on top of the clip result.
You can group those two elements and yoy're ready to go.

Suerte! ;-)
