I'd like to have a hex grid on Inkscape

Asked by heatherdoodle

Hi,

I was recommended to use Inkscape for simple D&D diagrams. I am working with some 5th graders who are designing a game and they are spending far too much time drawing. I'm hoping to get them on Inkscape so they can create maps and fiddle with them.

However, I don't see a way to make a hex grid for landscapes. The Axonomic grid function seems close, but doesn't give us something clear to work with. I'd really like a simple way for this to work, preferably with an ability to fill the grid in a straightforward way, without too much fiddle. Am I in the wrong program?

Thanks

Googling for "inkscape "hex grid"" produced this guy’s solution. It’s a python script to generate a hex grid.
You can generate a grid, load this SVG file and lock it as a background layer.

Wow, thanks. I actually did do that but got into (apparently) bin hex land,
and gave up. So thank you.

A little workaround may be using axonometric grid and lifting one side of the monitor to form 30° angle between table, you get nice axonometric grid. Afterwards you can rotate your drawing and monitor to normal :)

I made an extension to generate hexgrids for boardgames, with Inkscape layers etc and lots of options in the effect dialog:

Maybe a bit late to help the OP, but adding it here as a suggestion to fix similar requests (maybe permanently by including it in a future dist?).

Can you help with this problem?
