No option for bitmap export anywhere

All the help and forums say there should be a export bitmap option in the file menu. Mine only has PNG. Please help. I need a bitmap for another software program that will only recognize a bitmap.

the label 'Export bitmap' in previous versions is equivalent to the new label 'Export PNG image'.

This is because a bit map image is defined as an image consisting of pixels, it does not refer to a specific image file format.

I think what you are referring to is the Windows .bmp file format.

Inkscape does not export to .bmp.

If you need a .bmp format, then you must first export to PNG, and then you can use another image software to save it into the desired file format (but first make sure that you really need .bmp. PNG is, for most cases, the better file format as it uses compression, and thus the file size will be smaller).
