How to set up my scanner in inkscape

Asked by Andy

I have a Wacom Intuos2 A3 graphics tablet which I am trying to use on XP with Inkscape 0.46. I have the latest Wacom drivers installed from their website. When I go to input devices the tablet appears but Inkscape refuses to "Save" any configuration of the tablet, the only option that Inkscape responds to is Cancel leaving the tablet seemingly unconfigured. The pen is is not much more than a a different form of mouse. I would like to use the eraser, pressure sensitivity and tilt in Inkscape.

I've installed Inkscape by using the windows installer.

You can check by running Gimp or a development snapshot of latest Inkscape to see if either responds better to the tablet. Both use different versions of GTK+ (which is what is doing the interfacing with the tablet drivers)

I've downloaded and tried the latest windows development-build. This gives the same behavior: the save button on the "input devices" dialog won't save/clear the dialog. I've noticed the settings on the dialog may be incorrect. When the dialog is initially displayed many of the axises are set to none. Changing between the pen and the eraser updates the initial population of these fields with different values where are constant from then on.

I notice there is a new input devices dialog on the menu, this feature looks like its under development. I cannot see an easy way to test a development snapshot of GIMP. I don't have the tools I would need.
