Inkscape - Separating part of a path

Asked by hazydavey

I have transformed a bitmap in a vectorialized image. The result is good, but is made up of a huge single path, and i need to separate this in a number of paths. Every path must be an object with a given Id. I don't manage to separate a portion of the original path and obtain the new object. I've tryed in many ways, without achieving my goal. Sorry for my English, I'm italian!

You can try Path > Break Apart (Shift + Ctrl + K).

Then edit the object properties of each path to change the ID.

You can also look into other Path operations (under Path menu).

No, it was too simple. My picture is very complex, so if I use "break apart" it's broken in many parts too little and messy. What I need is a precision work. I'm forced doing it by hand, I don't want a quick or automated way to do it. Illustrator allow it in a simple way, but I would use Inkscape.

Cutting/Pasting standalone nodes isn't possible indeed. But you could try separating them with "Cut path" boolean operation.

I don't succeed to have some result using "Cut path". I select the nodes I want to separate from the others, I click on "Cut Path", but nothing happens.
In the meanwhile, I've solved my problem in a more complicated way: I circle the borders of the path that I need with shift+F6, then I select the new object created and the principal one toghether. I select Object-Clip-Set and I have the path I need isolated from the rest. Then is enough to cut and past the object in a new document and so on. If there is a way to do it more rapidly, I would know it, but I can work by now. Thank You all.
