How do you select a section?

I imported and traced a bitmap, but there is a lot of extra clutter in the background. Is there a way to select all the nodes in an area instead of having to delete them one at a time?

Or is there a way to just delete an area? I've clipped an area that contains a lot of clutter, but it's still there when you select the area using the node tool.

Try the Difference (and other) operations under Path menu. You'll have to draw an object that covers the unwanted area, I guess you can use the one you made for clipping.

Clipping only hides what's outside the clipping path, while path operations delete.
