Moving objects

I am just learning inskcape and I inserted a square and am tying to grab the object and move and I don't get a hand. What am I doing wrong??

Hi Melinda,

I assume you're still in 'rectangle tool' mode, and just need to switch to the selection tool (the cursor icon) to move things around.

If you need some help getting started with Inkscape, I suggest you take a look into the 'Basic' tutorial that comes with Inkscape (Help -> Tutorials).

Then there are also lots and lots of other tutorials. A good selection is listed here:
