How to delete clipped image portion after using clip + set function.

Asked by PhilToalston

Greetings. I have been using the clip+set function to lift objects from jpegs for use in layouts. The problem I'm having is this. I have finished the piece I was working on, and saved the file as a PDF so I can begin printing. But I've found that in the new PDF image, every object I have ever clipped away, or basically every scrap object left over after the clip + set function was used, is right there, layer upon layer upon layer, which is crapping up my image. How do I get rid of them? Please help.

There isn't currently a way to delete clipped-off portions of an image - clipping just hides them (which is usually the desired behaviour).

Your problem is caused by the lack of clipping support in the PDF export in Inkscape 0.46. I heard that this is fixed in the latest development versions of Inkscape, so you may like to try a current snapshot (development snapshots for Windows are available from http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?C=M;O=D ).

Alternatively, you could export to PNG (File -> Export Bitmap) at a sufficiently high resolution, and then convert that to PDF. Or print the PNG directly, if that's possible.

Cheers and thank you. Your recommendation to export as a PNG worked swimmingly. May your children be blesssed with superhuman strength.

When we create pdf for ebook, or screen for send by email. Is better remove clipped-off portions. I'm trying version 0.91.x but don't fix this issue.
