Bitmap export of HUGE size by mistake or sw error?

Asked by a-r-k-i-b-o-t-t

Hello,

I just experienced the following: I selected a path and exported it to a bitmap. A moment later its done. I did the same for a path right next to the first one. In fact, it is just a copy with another color. So it should be the same. Unexpectedly it just seemed to be stuck and it is calculating and calculating. I took a look at the file and it seems like it is exporting the whole (!) space of the document. When i try to open the file (which is still growing) (i am waiting this out because I did not save my recent work :( so.. ) .. the file can't be displayed because its too huge: Insufficient memory to store a 565686 by 856237 image; (i would call it huge)

So, i wonder why it does this, i wonder why it starts such a huge and super long lasting task without a warning like "this will take an hour - you'd better check your settings" and how can this happen anyways? I just selected a small path. It was not of that size.

Well, maybe it's a small bug with inkscape, maybe its a feature that could be improved to defuse such strange stuff by a warning or something.

Has anyone seen this before?

Regards,
arkibott

It produced a junk file of 8.5 MB while the expected size should be 6.5 KB. Strange. At least the work was still there. No program crash :)

Ok, i see when this happens. When the dialog stays opened after the first (or multiple) export(s) it just does not take the new selection in that 'rare case', instead it selects the whole workspace with the full resolution and ignores the selection I just applied. So when you press export without checking the details.. it exports the whole thing..

Even more Information: It switched to 'Custom' with the settings. Changing back to Selection Mode and reselecting (re-selecting) the already selected stuff it does the right from there on again.

Hi,

You probably want to give us a sample file or at least name the version of inkscape ;-)
