tutorials on importing clipart for cutting machine

Asked by Judi

I'm very new "brand new" to design software. I just recently purchased a Silhouette Cameo 3 cutting machine and want to obtain free clipart to use on this machine. It will only allow .studio (proprietary) or .dxf files I think. I did some searching for free software and Inkscape seem to fit the bill for creating my own designs (as I understand it). I installed Inkscape onto my laptop Windows Vista 32 bit os (I know old, but what can you do when it's still working so good). But when I import from the clipart under File menu. The graphics are so large they don't fit onto the page and I haven't figured how to reduce it. At least when I click on it the arrows won't reduce the size so I can work on it. When I try the program crashes after it says "program not responding". The tutorial was very good for explaining the program but I don't see one to explain import/export and how to manipulate on the design view page. First can you tell me why it keeps crashing? If it continues I will have to uninstall the program b/c I am learning and I certainly can't learn when the program keeps crashing. 2nd, is there a site or place on Inkscape I can find different tutorials on different things to learn? How or what is it called so I can search for it. I'm not looking to learn animation / video's more looking for design. Thank you for all the help you can give me.

Hi Judi,

> First can you tell me why it keeps crashing?
Which Inkscape version are you using? (Help -> About)
Which file from the Inkscape website did you download for installation?
What exactly do you need to do to make it crash?

The place where you can find a host of video tutorials for Inkscape is youtube.com.
Then there's a huge list of well curated Inkscape tutorials (in text form) at http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php

Kind Regards,
