snap to grid

Here was an answer to a snap to grid question which I don't understand:

if your problem is not caused by a bug, you should be able to re-activate snapping to grid by clicking on the next-to-last button in the snapping tool bar, tooltip: 'snap to grid'.

Also make sure you have activated the snapping for the objects you want to snap to the grid (you need to activate the corresponding part of the snapping bar by activating the top-most button in each group, then choose which specifics of the objects snapping should work on).

OK, so I activated the snapping menu and then checked the snap to grid box......I have my text selected with the arrows around it, but still won't snap. I think my problem is here: choose which specifics of the objects snapping should work on).

I'm not clear on that....
