Inkscape trouble in ubuntu 8.04

Asked by elwaywitvac

Sorry if this is a repeat but searches came up dry. Whenever I add a new element into a new or preexisting document, inkscape can't render it. It will give me the resize handles and the edit points, but it will not draw the object itself. I've tried multiple fill/stroke/background settings and nothing shows up. Preexisting elements render fine and can be resized/editted. Even if I save it, the graphics won't load when I open it again, but I can still select the invisible objects.

Help?

If it's any help I'm using the restricted nvidia drivers and kernel 2.6.24-16-generic.
Inkscape is installed from the package and is version 0.46

This is usually caused by having the opacity set to 0 (or close to 0). Have you checked that?

Also, copying from a visible object and then doing "paste style" on an invisible object should make it visible.

If nothing else works, deleting preferences.xml (in ~/.inkscape) will set your preferences back to the defaults, which should fix the problem.

Yes, I had forgotten to mention that I had checked the opacity, both leaving it and sliding it down then up.

Trying the other two now.
