HOw do you explode or separate a quilt design into its parts?

Hi rscjrobbins,

that depends upon the kind of file you have and the kind of data it contains.

Is it an SVG?
-> Click on the image. Look into the status bar. Is it grouped? If yes, ungroup. Repeat, if necessary.

-> Clicking doesn't select anything? Unlock the layer: Layer -> Lock/Unlock.

-> Does it say 'Path' in the status bar? Then you can use 'Path -> Break apart' to separate the path into its subpaths.

-> Does it say 'Image ... pixels'?
   -> You can't just 'explode' the contents. It's a raster image. You need to trace it, or give up.

Is it a raster image (e.g. png, jpg, bmp)?
-> Either trace the image, or find a different one that is made up of vector data.
