Can you explain what you mean by fade? Do you want to make it transparent? Look like it's disappearing into the background? Look faded by the sun?

Sorry this morning I didn't explain myself very well, because I was in a hurry and wasn't able to explain myself. What I want is that the field starts off clear and it starts disappearing in the background. I'll explain, I have an image of a field with sunflowers and the sky, I would like it to start off clear and then slowly I want it to fade away little by little.I want to thank you for whatever you can do for me.

Tamara, you need to apply a mask to an image :-)

1. Draw a rectangle above the bitmap image of same size or even larger
2. Fill it with a vertical linear gradient
3. Make one of the color stops black and the other one - white.
4. Select two objects and apply "Object - Mask - Apply"

You will see that the part of the image where black color stop was is disappearing.

You can do it by using gradients. Select your object, press G on your keyboard (That is a shortcut for Gradient tool), and drag with the mouse across your object. It's fill will automatically be faded from the original color to transparency.

You can find out more about gradients here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html#Attributes-Gradients
