Pictures save differently than they look on the screen and thus display differently in browsers.

Asked by Keith Reifsnyder

I have created a small picture in SVG format to use on Wikipedia; however, when I save the graphic and then view it in my Internet browser (Firefox), it shows up with a strange pink box in the middle of the graphic and some of my text disappears. I am new to the program and so I don't know what to try.

One main problem is that not all browsers fully support SVG, with Firefox having some noteable gaps in its support.

Another issue is that Inkscape can sometimes create flowtext (for text created by dragging an area and not just clicking) which was a proposed but not adopted in standards.

To verify that an SVG is "good", a good tool to use is Batik and the viewer "Squiggle" available for it.
