Hi Estelle,

try it this way:

- Select the text in Word
- Copy to the clipboard (Ctrl+C)
- Switch to Inkscape window
- Select the text tool
- Click on the canvas with the text tool
- Now paste the text (Ctrl+V)

Inkscape can only insert any text you copy into an existing text object. If there is no text object, it doesn't know what kind of text you want (flowed, normal) and where to put it.

Hope this helps!

If it still doesn't work when you insert the copied text into an existing text object, please report back.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi Estelle,

> Select the text tool - what am I doing wrong here

- There isn't much that could go wrong here... Just click on the button with the A or T on the left of the window.

> Click on the canvas with the text tool - what am I doing wrong

- I don't think there's much that can go wrong here, either.

> Now paste the text (Ctrl+V) - nothing happens or it is so small or compressed.......

- If the text is too small, then you can change the font size and the font afterwards.

If no text appears at all:
- does the cursor move to the right, as if invisible text is being inserted?
- can you paste the text into other programs?

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Dear Hachmann,

Thank you for the advice provided below.

I am copying text from a .doc document and pasting the text into Inkscape. I have checked and the text is not encrypted. I have also enlarged the font in word to 20 however when pasted into Inkscape - nothing appears. I have followed all the instructions which you have provided below and have included screenshots of the results.

Please advise as it seems the update is not working for me.

Your soonest response would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Estelle

Hi Estelle,

you seem to have overlooked the two questions at the end:

If no text appears at all:
- does the cursor move to the right, as if invisible text is being inserted?
- can you paste the text into other programs?
- Additional: can you copy text from other programs to Inkscape, such as Firefox, Gimp, or a pdf viewer?

I can not see any screenshots here, they are NOT supported in the launchpad answers section. If you want to post images here, please upload them to an image hoster, e.g. imgh.us, and post a link to them.

Regards,
 Maren
