unequal spinbuttons step values

Asked by fkk

Inkscape 0.91 r13725 windows 7

Hi

I noticed that some spinbuttons work with a step of 0.1 - like the stroke style width in the fill and stroke panel- while some other have a step of 1 - like the blur percentage in the fill and stroke panel. Such parameters become hard to be adjusted by tenths, while tenths of percent are crucial for blurring - especially for weak values of blur.

Adjusting blur % with the mouse in the bar doesn't give better results, so in the end the blur % is required most of the time to be manually filled with digits. And even here hitting the lower half of the bar is quite tricky too.

Should i post this as a bug? or discuss on possible improvements on the forum first ?
or leave it as is ?

Regards

Hi fkk,

I agree with you that those steps are way too large for most uses - I never really used a value > 4 (and you get there very fast with that slider/ with the scroll wheel).

There are already a couple of related bug reports:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171631
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/650751
remotely: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1429591

But none of these really capture the issue you are talking about, which is just to adjust the scroll wheel steps.

In contrast to blur, angle values in degrees could step by 1° instead of 1/10ths of a degree, when using the scroll wheel, in my view...

If you want to have some discussion, you can post this on the mailing list, but having it recorded as a bug report isn't a bad idea, as it may alleviate the other issues mentioned above, and will probably be very easy to implement.
(only yesterday, I've actually thought of reporting this myself).

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Thank you, too :) I've subscribed myself to the report and used the 'affects me, too' option.
