Hi April,

there are several options to do this. I'll explain my favourite two here:

In any case, first, you'll need to decide if you want to lock the width/height ratio of the words by clicking on the small lock icon at the top when you are using the selection tool.

Option A:
- Then, to get the same width for all objects, just copy the one whose width you want for the others.
- Select all the others.
- Go to Edit -> Paste Size -> Paste Width separately.

Option B:
Or you could use snapping to guides instead, if you already know which width you want and none of the text objects already has that width. If you're going this way, you can also hold down Ctrl to keep the aspect ratio while resizing.
Create two guides, then activate snapping to guides and to object bounding box edges, then resize until the object 'snaps'.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi, Maren,
I locked the words.
On option A. I highlighted the word I that is nine inchees wide (Good), Highlighted the others, Edit, Paste Size, Past Width Seperately. Then I went back in and typed the words vibe again, it didn't change the width to match (Good). Is it suppose to automatically change the width without me entering the word again?

I also tried creating guides, but couldn't quite figure it out even after watching you tube video. Sorry I'm new at this . I think your option A would be the best route. I think I'm just doing something wrong on the last step. Do you have any youtube videos you could forward on this?
Thanks again for your help,
April

Hi April,

In your comment #3, you forgot to mention the copy step. You need to copy the size of the object, before you can paste it to another object. Did you do that?

Inkscape will not keep the text's size constant when you change the contents of the text, no. You will need to repeat pasting/changing the size whenever you change the letters in a word.

A third (and in your case, probably the best) option, which I forgot to mention, unfortunately, would be to lock the object's width/height ratio, as you have already done, and then to just type in the size at the top, into the 'width' field.

Regards,
 Maren

Hi
I copied it before I pasted per your original instructions, but it doesn't seem to make the second word the same width. I also deleted the word and that didnt work either. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Okay, step by step, then (we'll get you to get the same size for all texts ;-) ):

Option one (makes all object the same width as another object):

1. Select selection tool
2. Click on the little lock in the tool's tool bar at the top, so it is locked/active.
3. Select big text
4. Hit Ctrl+C to copy
5. Select small texts, either by click-dragging the mouse around them, or by holding Shift down, and clicking on each one
6. Go to the menu: Edit -> Paste Size -> Paste Width separately.
7. Done!

Option two (makes all objects the same width, in this case, 9 inch):
1. Select selection tool
2. Click on the little lock in the tool's tool bar at the top, so it is locked/active.
3. Select any of the texts
4. In the tool bar at the top, make sure that the unit is inch.
5. Then, in the field labelled W (for width) enter a 9, hit Enter.
6. Repeat for each object, until they are all 9 inch wide.
7. Done!

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi April,

maybe I didn't understand what you want to achieve, then (no, I don't know of any youtube videos).

What does happen when you follow the steps outlined above, and what would you expect to happen?

Kind Regards,
 Maren
