How can I set Inkscape as default for SVGs

Asked by William Lovorn

When I first installed Inkscape, all SVG images I had automatically opened in Inkscape and all SVG files had an Inkscape icon on my PC's desktop. Now they do not. how do I get that back?

Hi William,

that depends on your operating system. The default program that is launched when you double-click on a file is not a setting that is determined by Inkscape, but by your system.

On most operating systems, one can right-click on a file, and then select a program that you want to open it with. There's also usually an option to set that program as a default for that kind of files.

I can't tell you more, you'll need to find out how to do this on your specific operating system - they are all a little different, and I'm on Linux Mint.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
