Clipping objects

Asked by Kevin

Hi guys

I am trying to clip a group of objects to a bigger object so that the smaller objects appear as holes in the bigger object. Whatever I do to try and get the holes in place, the clipping works in exactly the opposite way in which I want it to work. In this case I am just trying to put some round holes in a bigger circle, and it doesn't matter which order I arrange the artwork the clipping always clips the larger circle rather than the smaller. Does anyone have any tips or ideas that could help solve my problem. I would be grateful.

Many thanks

Hi Kevin,

in that case, just create an object that is larger than the object you want to be clipped (covers all of it), punch the holes into it using Path -> Difference, then use it to clip the other object.

Or you could of course use the boolean operations directly (i.e. Path -> Difference) to create the holes in your circle, which would be the 'vector way' to do things.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
