Separate Territories

Asked by Ivaylo Bonev

Hello!

Is there a way to separate the circle I've marked here (http://prntscr.com/cr2n6x) from its surrounding territories so they + the circle don't overlap, without me having to manually move all the nodes? For other circles, for instance, the one on the top-left corner of the screenshot, that are only inside a territory and not between 2 or more, I'd simply use Path->Division, but the result here is http://prnt.sc/cr2qm2 -> http://prnt.sc/cr2qm5 and respectfully http://prnt.sc/cr2qm6 -> http://prnt.sc/cr2uwz (which is definitely not what I want). All other options in the Path menu seem not to work as well.

I know this may seem as an odd question, so if it's not understandable in some way, I'll try to explain it again. If it is, well – I'd greatly appreciate any advice on the matter.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Ivaylo Bonev

Hi Ivaylo Bonev,

I'm not sure if I have understood the problem fully, but I'll try - tell me if this is what you mean:

I think you want the black lines inside the circles to go away, and the areas outside to have the circle as part of their new border, while keeping the original circle, too, right?

If so, you can duplicate the circle, put it on top, then do Path -> Difference with the selected area.
Repeat this for each bordering area, and remember to always keep a copy of the original circle.

If all that repetition is too much, then consider using the Multibool extension:
https://github.com/Moini/inkscape-extensions-multi-bool , where 'Difference' will subtract the uppermost object from each of the objects in the stack of selected objects.

Btw. if this is not for cutting / plotting, but only for 'looks', then you could also just color the circles in, or use a clip mask, to make the lines inside vanish.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
